How one retailer transformed their store!
Sep 10, 2024When it comes to merchandising, few do it better than Anthropologie, a retail brand renowned for turning storefronts into breathtaking art installations!
Anthropologies Senior Display Director, Erika Lavina is nothing short of a magician when it comes to crafting inventive, captivating, and sustainable displays with repurposed scrap donations and used materials.
"We want to create spaces that our customers want to live within", she says.
But what makes their displays so successful???
The integration of products with a narrative.
Customers get to experience each seasonal display fostering a sense of loyalty and excitement, and creating a lasting impact.
So, want to craft an unforgettable, sensory-rich, seasonal display that tells a powerful story for your customers??
Keep reading as I share my top 6 story-telling merchandising strategies that will transform your store and keep customers engaged within the season.
1. Re-purpose what you have & collaborate! Use exisiting and new inventory in your store displays that reinvent the way customers imagine and experience your products. Layer these products to add height and depth using full use of your space. If allowed, place merch outside your store, catching the eyes of foot traffic and cars driving by!
2. Use local craftsmanship for handmade elements. Instead of expensive, custom-made installations, consider collaborating with local artists or artisans to create unique display pieces. Think paper flowers, handcrafted signage or DIY hanging installations!
3. Use affordable lighting. LED string lights are inexpensive ways to add warmth and focus to your display. Highlight key products by draping lights or placing spotlights strategically to draw attention.
4. Incorporate natural elements. Embrace the current season with displays featuring low-cost natural materials like dried flowers, branches and greenery! These could be sourced locally adding an authentic, fresh feel to your display.
5. Add scent and sound. It might sound obvious, but the power of scent and sound should not be underestimated! Scented candles or diffusers with spring time aromas like citrus and lavender, can enhance the atmosphere. Pair this with a gentle seasonal soundtrack to engage more senses and create a complete experience!
6. Purposeful minimalist design. Less is more! Focus on a few standout products, give them space to shine, and avoid overcrowding. At the same time, be purposeful with your product placement, pairing products to encourage ad-on sales! A clean, simply display can be just as impactful as one filled with props!
